The Bronx Zoo is one of the most famous zoos in the World and the American largest in the metropolitan area. It has become even more well known since the series “The Zoo” began running on Discovery Channel.
What you will find in Bronx Zoo
If you have never been to the Bronx Zoo, or any zoo whatsoever, you are in for a surprise. Never been to a zoo before you might just think of animals in cages, but nowadays zoos are very very different. In the modern zoo, the habitats are more natural-looking and some are even interactive.
Here is a list of some of the exhibits:
- Congo Gorilla Forest
- Jungle World
- Tiger Mountain
- Wild Asia Monorail
There are two options for the entrance ticket, a General Admission or Total Experience, which includes all the exhibits. One adventure that is always a separate ticket is the Treetop Adventure, which consists of a rope course and zip line, for those looking for a little more excitement.
Taking your own vehicle is not always the best choice as traffic can be very busy, so why not take public transit. There are 2 subways and 1 bus that take you directly there without the hassle of trying to find parking.
- New York City Bus: Bx9, Bx12, Bx12 SBS, Bx19, Bx21, Bx22, Bx36, Bx39, Q44 SBS
- Bee-Line Bus: BL60, BL61, and BL62
Metro-North Railroad: Fordham
When it comes to feeding time, for the humans, not the animals, you have some options. There are plenty of food stands throughout the part or you can sit down at the Dancing Crane Cafe. The cafe is near the center and serves a good variety of food, or you can even bring your own.
The Bronx Zoo dedicates themselves to creating an experience that is educational, heightens awareness, fun, and just plain cool.
